Hamilton town Centre Residents

Christina McKelvie MSP hosts Hamilton residents to talk town centre

Hamilton town centre was top of the agenda this week as Christina McKelvie MSP hosted a stakeholder residents meeting to discuss the town.

SNP MSP Christina McKelvie and SNP South Lanarkshire Councillors Stephanie Callaghan and Josh Wilson addressed the packed meeting to discuss anti-social behaviour occurring within the town.

The meeting comes following Christina McKelvie’s stakeholder parliamentary summit and extensive consultation on anti-social behaviour within the town centre. The Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse MSP gave an overview of the actions taken to date and pledged to continue working with all other agencies to ensure the town centre remained safe and secure.

The residents meeting also discussed the proposals for town centre regeneration within Hamilton.

The regeneration, which follows on from the town centre action plan report ‘Our Town, Your Voice’ from Christina McKelvie MSP and Angela Crawley MP, is set to come before South Lanarkshire Council Community and Enterprise Resources Committee.

Commenting on the meeting, Christina McKelvie MSP said:

“I was delighted to report back to my constituents regarding the continued work around the town centre.

“Following  my parliamentary summit on the anti-social behaviour in June 2017, and more recent reports of the behaviour continuing within the town, this residents meeting allowed me to communicate directly to those impacted worst by the behaviour.

“On their behalf, I have worked towards a multi-agency coordination action plan which brings together Police Scotland, South Lanarkshire Council Social Work, business owners and those who live and work in the town centre.

“Hamilton is on the cusp of some incredibly exciting regeneration projects which I am delighted to bring to my constituents. This residents meeting was an ideal platform to inform my constituents of these plans and I would be more than happy to discuss this further with anyone throughout Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse.

In a joint statement, SNP Councillor’s Josh Wilson and Stephanie Callaghan added:

“We were delighted to meet with residents in Hamilton to discuss the future of the town.

“The SNP are serious about town centre regeneration and have put it at the centre of our programme for the coming year.

“As a result of the work we have undertaken, we are excited about the progress that we can make and we’re looking forward to engaging with the community further about our plans.”
