Funding available from Royal Bank of Scotland

The Royal Bank of Scotland Skills and Opportunities Fund is currently open to charities, social enterprises, and community groups throughout South Lanarkshire and beyond.

Launched in 2015, as part of RBS’ community engagement strategy, the bank is set to give away £1m in the first of two rounds of funding in 2017.

Applications will remain open until midday on Friday 24 February.

The Fund has already shared £5m in 4 rounds of funding, providing grants of up to £35k to not-for-profit organisations across the UK that help people achieve qualifications, find work or start a business.

The Fund is expected to reach over 75,000 people by the end of 2017, helping to build better lives and stronger communities.

Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse MSP, Christina McKelvie has welcomed the fund and encouraged local constituents to apply.

Commenting, Christina said:

“My constituency has some of the most inspiring and selfless organisations throughout Scotland. They provide services for the benefit of others and expect no financial gain in return.

“These social enterprises and community groups could always do with an extra hand in expanding their work programme, helping even more people throughout Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse.

“That’s where the Skills and Opportunities Fund can come in, providing guided support and funding for those who seek to help others.

“I would encourage all to apply for the fund and seek what help may be able to you in order to help others.”

Malcolm Buchanan, chairman of Royal Bank of Scotland’s Scottish board, said:

“Since Royal Bank of Scotland launched the Skills and Opportunities Fund in May 2015 we’ve had over 3,500 applications; shortlisted 367 of these and thanks to over 110,000 votes, we’ve awarded a total of £5m to 186 organisations.

“Lanarkshire is home to a number of not-for-profit groups working hard to make a real difference to people in villages and towns across the area.

“We hope we will see more groups applying before the application closing date and take the opportunity to build on the invaluable services they provide.”
